Presentation and discussion about good Circular Economy Practices, Online Event on YouTube
An online discussion about strategies for the promotion of Circular Economy at the level of Municipalities and Regions in Greece, Germany and the Netherlands took place on 4 & 5 of November 2020 with the initiative of ANATOLIKI S.A.
During the first day, on behalf of ANATOLIKI S.A., Dr. Christos Karkanias presented the National Planning for Circular Economy in Greece and its adaptation to the corresponding new European Plan. Mrs. Crysanthi Kiskini, Head of the Department of European Projects of the Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia, analyzed the strategy of the Region of Central Macedonia and the initiatives of the Region in the promotion and adoption of Circular Economy practices. Afterwards, Mr. Thijs de la Court, representative of Climate Alliance of the Netherlands, described the methodology for linking local and regional policies with indicators for achieving goals in the context of implementing actions on climate change and circular economy. The first day closed with a presentation by Mr. Günther Langer, representative of the Municipality of Munich, presenting the actions of the Municipality for waste minimization and the initiative of “Zero Waste City”.
The second day of the event included a virtual video tour of four selected good Circular Economy practices from the Regional Unit of Thessaloniki. The first video was about the BIOGAS unit of Lagadas which produces energy from biogas with the utilization of animal waste. The second video was about the initiative of SOCIAL PLATE, implemented by the Central Vegetable Market of Thessaloniki concerning the rescue of fresh fruits and vegetables from traders and their distribution to vulnerable groups of the city of Thessaloniki. The third video was about N. KAISIDIS ABTE in which asphalt mixtures are recycled to produce new and improved mixtures. The last video was about the Social Consumer Cooperative BIOSCOOP and its initiatives regarding the sustainability of food and the environmental awareness of consumers. During the event, the attendees had the opportunity to discuss and talk with the four representatives of the good practices abovementioned, Mr. Athanasios Tossidis, Mr. Theodoros Papadopoulos, Mrs. Elena Kaisidou and Mr. Aris Hatzinikolaou respectively.
The thematic event on Circular Economy was organized in the framework of the project “Change the Power-(em)Power to Change: Local Authorities towards SDGs and Climate Justice”, co-funded by the programme DEAR.
The event was greeted by Mrs. Silke Lunnebach, coordinator of the project “Change the Power-(em)Power to change” on behalf of Climate Alliance of Germany, Lead Partner of the project, Mr. Konstantinos Michailidis, Head of the Independent Directorate of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support of the Region of Central Macedonia, Mr. Antonis Bouboulas, Head of the Research Projects Department of the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Mr. Iakovos Sarigiannis, General Director of the Development Agency of Eastern Thessaloniki’s Local Authorities, ANATOLIKI S.A.
